The Organization Committee accepted more than 500 applications from 56 countries
In July 1, 2014 the acceptance of applications for participation in the X Kazan Festival of Muslim Cinema in Kazan is finished . The Organization Committee registered a record number of applications, it was more than 500 ones from 56 countries. The Selection Committee has begun to watch sent movies. The Jubilee Forum Program will be drawn up to the 1-st of August.
The applications sending campaign to the X festival was unusually active: first films were received in October 2013, The dialogue of cultures has vast geography – countries of Europe, Asia, America, Africa … For the first time films from Brazil and Argentina (Latin America) were sent for the participation in the festival. As in previous years we have a lot of films of co-production made by filmmakers from different countries representing various cultures: Spain-Qatar, Italy-Afghanistan, Brazil-Lebanon, Armenia-Iran, Russia-Palestine,France- Algeria, Germany- Azerbaijan, Iran-Malaysia, Finland-Iceland and others.
We will see again the stories on eternal themes of love, friendship, peace with an emphasis on the dialogue between cultures — says Art Director of the International Festival of Muslim Cinema in Kazan, Albina Nafigova. — Then we’ll see another films where dialogue does`nt begin immediately. Will see problems with not necessarily ready-made decisions. We’ll learn the life of Muslims in Austria, the second and third immigrants generations` acclimatization in a multicultural European world, how Muslims are struggling for their rights and resisting the radicals … Actually there are a lot of interesting films, but now it’s turn of our Selection Committee to take a decision. They will choose what films will enter the main competition program and what films will leave aside.
The competition program will include 50 films in different nominations (full-length feature film, short-lenght feature film, documentary — full and short lengths, animation film). The Out-of Competition Program will be formed by the films that were not included in the Competition Program because of certain reasons.
Also we offer our audience an extensive parallel program which presents films that are not directly related to the festival’s theme, like premieres of films — laureates of first-rate European festivals, young authors films, retrospective programs, etc. We will certainly underline in our festival bill three prominent events of this season, they are the 10-th anniversary of the Kazan Cinema Forum, 90-th anniversary of Tatarkino and also the status of Kazan as a capital of Turkic world. — says Marat Davletov, the Executive Director of the film festival.
Kazan International Festival of Muslim Cinema (KMFMK) is one of the prominent domestic film festivals which is helding in the capital of Tatarstan Republic annually since 2005. The concept of the festival is represented by it’s motto: Through the dialogue of cultures to the culture of dialogue. The Forum Program selects films representing the ideas of peace and tolerance, teaching the ways of inter-ethnic dialogue building without indicating the author’s religion. No wonder that in professional sphere Kazan film festival is named as a festival of humane cinema.
The participants of the festival are directors which are representing the European and Asian cinematography, Russia and the countries of the former USSR. An International Jury in different years was headed by Vladimir Hotinenko, Karen Shakhnazarov, Vadim Abdrashitov. Between honorary guests of the festival were such stars like: Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Adjani, Mark Dacascos, Adrien Brody, Ornella Muti, Nikita Mikhalkov, Eldar Ryazanov, Yevgeny Mironov, Aristarchus Livanov, Alexander Mitta, Igor Petrenko, Alla Surikov, Armen Dzhigarkhanyan Lydia Fedoseyeva-Shukshina Vladimir Menchov and others.
The winners of the festival in different years became such films like: Muslim (director Vladimir Hotinenko, Russia), Wizard (director Oktay Mir Kasim, Azerbaijan), Tears of Cold (director Azizollah Hamidnezade, Iran), Baba Aziz (director Nasser Khemiri, France-Germany-Tunisia-Hungary-Iran and Great Britain), Mi for Mom (director Rasul Mollagolipura, Iran), Jodha and Akbar (director Ashutosha Govarihera, India), One War (director Vera Glagoleva, Russia), Sugar Grain (director Seyd Mir-Karimi, Iran), Circles (director Srdjan Golubovicha, Serbia.
2014 is a prominent year for the Kazan Film Festival. This year is declared by the Russian Federation President’s decree as the Year of Culture. In March 2014 Kazan took the status of the Turkic world capital (awarded by the Turksoi International Organization for the period of one year). In 2014 there is the 90th anniversary of film distribution in Tatarstan, so it is a jubilee of GBUK RT Tatarkino which is organizing and conducting the Kazan Film Festival.
The X International Festival of Muslim Cinema will be held in Kazan from 5 to 11 September 2014. The competition program includes 50 films that will compete for such festival’s awards like:
— 10 statuettes on (full-length feature films: The Best Film, The Best Director, The Best Screenplay, The Best Photography Direction, The Best Male and Female Roles; the best short-length feature film; the best animation film; the best full-length documentary film; the best short-length documentary film) nominations;
— For Humanism in Cinema Special Prize of Tatarstan Republic President;
— Special Prize of Turksoi International Organization.
The Jury chairmen of all years and festivals friends who influenced on it’s history and also directors and film critics from the Turksoi countries are invited to the Jubilee Festival.
In addition to the competition program the audience will see extensive out-of competition and parallel programs. Within the festival’s framework different workshop sessions, creative meetings with the participants of the festival, round tables on relevant issues of cinematography and press conferences will be held.
