The call for bids to participate in the XII Kazan film festival is completed

The call for bids to participate in the XII Kazan international Muslim film festival is completed on the 1st of June. Cinema forum will traditionally be held in the capital city of Tatarstan from 5th to 11th September.

More than 700 applications from 50 countries were sent to organizing committee.

The geography of the registered potential participants of Kazan cinema forum is large, the countries, leading according to the number of applications are Iran and Russia. A great number of films were sent from Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq and Syria. Many films were sent from Europe. The first time in the history of the festival the film from Chili and Lithuania were sent to organizing committee. Russia is presented by several regions, Bashkortostan, Yakutia and Tatarstan among them.

The geography of the festival will be determined by the selecting committee, which is traditionally headed by the film critic Sergei Lavrentiev. Well-known film critics are invited to select films for Kazan film festival.

The jury will include representatives from Russian and Iranian cinematography, CIS countries and Europe.

Apart from competition program there will be a wide variety of non-competition and parallel programs awaiting the audience. “The attention on parallel program will be given to the year of Russian cinematography, the jubilee of G.Tukai and archive films”, says the art-director of the festival Albina Nafigova. Also traditional programs of European films and collections of short films are planned. The nomination “Young Russia”, founded last year to support young, independent and regional films will be held in the framework of cinema forum with the award of price on the result of audience vote”.

The main venues of the festival will be the cinema houses of Kazan, also the usage of art spaces of the city and many other interesting forms of interaction with the audience are planned.
