The 2nd Kazan International Muslim Film Festival “Golden Minbar”
The 2nd Kazan International Muslim Film Festival “Golden Minbar” was held in Kazan from the 10th to 15th September, 2006 under the motto “Religious tolerance and political correctness”.
The selection committee of the festival received more than 80 films, the qualities of which were better than of those received a year before. 34 films were selected for the festival, among them 13 motion pictures, 16 documentaries, 5 animated films. For non-competition program 28 films were selected, among them 6 motion pictures, 5 short feature films, 17 documentaries – all in all 62 films by the filmmakers from more than 20 countries, such as Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Great Britain, the USA, Syria, Turkey, former Soviet Union countries and regions of Russia. For the first time filmmakers from Afghanistan, Algeria, Holland, India, Palestine, Saudi Arabiaand Tunisiapresented their motion pictures.
180 journalists from 65 media outlets were accredited for the festival, among them 8 foreign, 13 federal and 44 republican media outlets.
Displays of the competitive and non competitive films were held in the modern cinema halls of “Grand Cinema” in the “Suvar-Plaza” trading centre. More than 5 thousand people attended film screenings.

Special prize of the president of the Republic of Tatarstan was awarded to Nurbek Egen (director of the film “Ancestors’ chest”, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, France).
